In 2023 I designed a plate inspired by the fold of the paper used to serve the popular street food, mayai pasua. In response to this plate, the chef Kim Kiarie developed his own take on mayai pasua which is now a menu item at his restaurant, 5senses. This unique dish was the result of conversation and collaboration between a designer (maker of objects) and a chef (maker of edible objects). To finally officially launch this collaboration, I invited designers (makers of objects) and chefs (makers of edible objects) to experience Kim Kiarie’s take on mayai pasua, alongside 3 other Kenyan food inspired dishes. This was also an invitation to the conversations around food, identity and the other journeys we went on. - Adam Yawe
